Interpersonal and dynamics recommendations

It appears very important to make a declaration of intent. Indeed, the aim of the programme in the field of peace education should be presented very clearly to the participants, during the recruitment phase but also during the training phase. Programme facilitators need better training in peace education and recreation leadership principles so that the coaches will have these skills. The leaders should enhance personal relationships between the participants during the trainings. This can be done by ‘warming up’ games that foster interpersonal relationships, creating some free space for open communication, organizing social activities outside the training schedule. Both professional trainers as well as programme facilitators should assist the Arabs more and help them with the course more, making sure they feel comfortable with the course material as well as socially. In case of dropouts, there should be a fast response to inquire about the reasons for dropping out and to explore options for returning to the training. Due consideration should be provided for creating more space for collaboration between Arabs and Jews – encourage potential cooperation between Jews and Arabs in the group in the training by creating mutual interest and joint assignments. Finally, it is recommended to integrate more peace education content in the trainings that can be taught academically in the class (peace education values, models, tools). It is important not to separate the seminar from the every week trainings but to try and integrate the content there were taught in the seminar during the training time and in the future as trainers with children. A key long-term focus of the programme is health and well-being. Future programmes should endeavour to collect further research on the impact of the Mifalot programme on short- and long-term health and well-being. Implementing these recommendations would enhance Mifalot’s ‘United Soccer for Peace’ programme as well as other programmes in Israel and in other conflict areas, which attempt to use sport as a tool for conflict mitigation and health improvement
